Built to host the 1984 European Nations Championship, the Stade de la Beaujoire can now accommodate over 37,000 seated spectators, ranking it as the 7th largest stadium in France. It is the main home of the Nantes football club, FCNA (Football Club Nantes Atlantique), which celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. Besides Euro 1984, the Stade de la Beaujoire was used during the 1998 World Cup held in France and has seen some of the greatest football nations, including Spain and Brazil twice, play on its field.
Rugby fans aren’t left out, as the world of rugby frequently comes to Nantes, with the stadium hosting events for the Top 14 (French Championship) and the H-Cup (European Club Cup) several times each year. Additionally, the Stade de La Beaujoire has a special history with rugby… In fact, it was on this Nantes field that, for the first time, the French team won a match against the New Zealand team on November 15, 1986 (victory 15-3). In 2023, during the Rugby World Cup held in France, the Stade de la Beaujoire hosted four matches of the competition.
Reflecting the spirit of the city of Nantes, the Stade de la Beaujoire has embraced culture and can transform into a true musical venue. Since its beginnings, La Beaujoire has hosted major artists like Genesis in June 1987 and Pink Floyd the following year. Since then, Dire Straits, U2… and more recently Johnny Hallyday and Mylène Farmer in June 2023 have graced its stage.
