Built to host the European Nations Championship in 1984, the Stade de la Beaujoire can accommodate over 37,000 seated spectators today, ranking it 7th nationally. It is the main landmark of Nantes' football club, FCNA (Football Club Nantes Atlantique), which celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. In addition to Euro 1984, the Stade de la Beaujoire was used during the 1998 FIFA World Cup hosted in France and witnessed the greatest footballing nations stepping onto its turf, as Spain and Brazil, twice, played at the Beaujoire.
Rugby players are also not left behind, as part of their conquest of the West, the rugby world takes over the Nantes Stadium several times a year, whether for the Top 14 (French Championship) or the H-Cup (European Club Cup). Furthermore, the Stade de La Beaujoire has a special history with rugby... Indeed, it was in the Nantes garden that, for the first time, the French Fifteen won a match against the New Zealand Fifteen; on November 15th, 1986 (victory 15-3). In 2023, during the Rugby World Cup organized in France, the Stade de la Beaujoire will host 4 matches of the competition.
Similar to the city of Nantes, the Stade de la Beaujoire has opened up to culture and can transform into a true musical venue. In fact, since its inception, La Beaujoire has hosted the biggest artists such as Genesis in June 1987 and Pink Floyd the following year. This was followed by Dire Straits, U2... up to Johnny Hallyday or Mylène Farmer in June 2023.
